Food blogger course: 80 leads, $2,035 revenue, 333% ROMI
Author-led food blogger course: first paid traffic launch
Situation and task
The author of a food blog on Instagram was launching her own course. Until then sales had come only from the blog’s organic reach, and that hits a ceiling: the audience is finite, reach does not grow on command, and sooner or later a launch starts to depend on whether ads to a cold audience pay back.
The task — test this on a small budget: collect course leads with paid traffic and see whether the economics work before investing seriously.
What we did
Launched targeted ads on Instagram — the same place the blog lives. The logic is simple: the food-content audience is already in this environment and consumes similar material, so there is no need to explain the value of the format; the ad lands in a familiar context.
Kept the budget at a test level, $611: the goal of the first launch was not to squeeze out maximum revenue but to get an honest answer about demand.
Results
- Ad budget — $611
- Leads — 80, at ~$7.63
- Revenue — $2,037
- ROMI — 333% ($2,037 ÷ $611)
For every dollar invested, the course returned $3.33 in revenue.
Insights
- For an online education product this is working economics already on the first launch: $611 did not require serious risk from the author, and 333% ROMI confirmed demand before scaling.
- A channel native to the audience saves warm-up budget: people see the ad where they already watch this kind of content.
- A small test budget answers the main question — does the course sell — faster and cheaper than a full-scale launch.
